Bombers def North Stars 3 - 2

On the back of a round 1-win, North Stars had an edge on the Bombers. In-spite of a goal-less first period and a 2-0 lead halfway through the second period, it was the Bombers that fought back to take the win.

Bombers captain Matt Musumeci shared, “The two goals scored against were due to lapses in judgement. Communication breakdown led to the North Stars capitalizing. I feel the game went well. Sure, we have things that we are working on and lots of growth to achieve, but we are in a good place for this time of the season”.

North Stars Coach Amelia Matheson commented, “the tempo of the game was an enjoyable one to watch. I feel both teams were there to battle and both were fighting for that puck at all opportunities. Overall all players really turned up and you could see all were trying to do all they could to take that win”.

Both Matt and Amelia noted that the key player of the game was Bombers goalie Alan Becken. Matt stating, “Al Becken (33) keeping the team alive in crucial moments throughout the game (as always)” and Amelia sharing “Their key player is AB. That guy is such an asset to their team and is one of the greatest goalies I’ve seen to date. Without him, I believe it would have been a whole different game”.

In period two North Stars players Jacob Pessotto and Chris Shepherd scored the only two goals for the team. The Bombers comeback began in the last 5 minutes of the period with Zigmond Janiszewski netting his first goal as a bomber.

Reflecting on the game overall, Matheson shared “We would of liked the win obviously, but knowing we worked hard and battled where required brings some peace”.  “A few mistakes/misreads were there but that is the game of hockey. It will never be perfect. but overall there is room for growth but I am proud of how the boys performed.”

Halfway through period three, the Bombers continued to score unanswered goals with Lucien Hackett levelling the score at 2-2 for the Bombers and shifting the energy.

The North Stars ECSL Facebook page noted “The Bombers strong forecheck and speed through the neutral zone saw a fast, end to end game throughout the third, with the bombers ultimately capitalizing on mistakes and taking the lead. A final 2 minute push late in the third from the North Stars saw a few posts hit and the North Stars draw 2 penalties, showing how difficult the Bombers found the sudden change of pace.”

In the final 5 minutes of the game, a coast to coast skate and a snipe saw Mathias Karer score the winning goal for the Bombers.

“I’m just excited for this season. It’s already shown that each team carries new strengths and I believe it has made it a much more even competition. Cannot wait to verse the other teams to learn and continue working on our growth as a team” stated Matheson looking ahead to the rest of the season.
